How the Exchange Works

Here is everything you need to know before your first visit

Three Simple Steps

No membership, no fees, no appointments. Here is how the exchange works — scroll down to learn more about each step.

Bring seasonally appropriate, gently loved clothing that your family has outgrown or no longer wants. Clean, wearable items in good condition help us keep the exchange stocked for every family who comes through our doors.

We accept clothing for all ages — newborn through teen (size 14) and maternity clothes. Shoes and accessories in good condition are also welcome. Not sure if something qualifies? Bring it and let a volunteer take a look.

Browse and Select

No donation is required to take clothing. The exchange is completely free and open to every family — come as often as you need, take what works for your family, and return items when they are outgrown so another family can use them.

Browse our organized racks and bins at your own pace. We often have full bins of every size and are adding new clothes daily, so we encourage you to check back often if you didn't get everything you wanted to. While there is no cost to take clothing, we are always grateful for financial donations, as it helps keep our lights on. The exchange is built on trust and community generosity.

Reduce Textile Waste

Every item that finds a new home through 143 Exchange is one less piece of clothing headed to a landfill. The textile industry is one of the largest contributors to waste globally — and community exchanges like ours are part of the solution.

When you donate, exchange, or volunteer with 143 Exchange, you are not just helping a family — you are contributing to a more sustainable, circular way of caring for clothing and for each other.
